Welcome to 2018, my friends! I am so excited and have spoken before about my love for the New Year and all the excitement it brings! While this blog is all about living your best life every day; there’s nothing wrong with a fresh start to reset your mindset, ramp up your motivation, and refocus your goals.
Over time I’ve developed a tradition of establishing a theme or mindset for my year! Last year it was all about enjoying the journey; not putting too much pressure on myself, and trying to live more in the moment.
For the most part, I think I accomplished that but if I can be completely honest, I’m feeling kind of “eh” about my 2017. It wasn’t filled with any particular highs or lows (which, depending on your perspective can be either good or bad).
But, after finishing my year-end review, I’ve concluded that my biggest issue with 2017 is, I set a lot of goals and made a lot of plans, that never got out of the planning stage! If you’re even a little bit familiar with this blog, you know that just a big no-no to me.
I’m definitely an advocate of putting a good amount of thought into what you are doing, but not if it paralyzes you in place. So, taking all of that into consideration, I’ve decided my theme for 2018 is “Action Over Words”! Yep, it’s time to make use of these overthought-out plans so I don’t end 2018 feeling like I started. So how will I do it?
- By Sticking with my Vision Board: A lot of people have a love/hate relationship with them but if used correctly, I’m still an advocate. Last year I wrote a post with some great tips on creating an effective board and how you can use it to stick to your goals. It’s definitely worth a read!
- By Joining an Accountability-Mastermind Group: Because it’s important to surround yourself with like-minded individuals who are unafraid to call you out, to bounce ideas off of, and can also encourage you when you find yourself too much in your head (which I’m prone to do).
- By Using My Time Intentionally: Eliminating distractions that don’t positively impact what I’m trying to accomplish; and those distractions include people, places, and things. If all you’re bringing is negativity into a positive space, you must go! Also, no more saying yes to events I really have no need or interest in attending. Lastly, I can’t think of a better time to cut the TV cord! You ever notice how we complain about not having time, but somehow manage to get in a couple of hours of junk television? I’m guilty of this but in 2018; I don’t think so!
- By Remembering That Progress Is Better Than Perfection: Enough Said!
Do you have a theme or specific mindset for the New Year? I’d love to hear about it in the comments! Or find me on social and share your thoughts!
Until next time, remember, 2018 is the year of Action over Words!
