2017 Mindset; Enjoy The Journey

We are firmly into 2017, and I hope everyone is having a productive start to the New Year! While I haven’t been the resolution type since I was a young girl, I try to start each year by refocusing myself. More specifically getting clear on my next set of goals.

Before I focus on what’s next, I always do a review of the previous year.  With 2017 being the first full year of my blog, I definitely wanted to share this reflection with all of you!

In retrospect, I can say that 2016 was the most satisfying year of my adult life. I’ve been here in Atlanta for four years now and feeling like this is a city that I can call home. In addition, I have a great job, have joined a wonderful church, putting the finishing touches on my MBA, and a few months ago launched this blog. Life is great! But more importantly, I’m in a space where I feel more prepared than ever to handle life’s inevitable tough times.  I’m stronger; mentally, physically, and emotionally than I’ve ever been. At 32 years of age, I can say 2016 is the year I fell head over heels in love with this adult version of myself.

To some, that may sound strange, but I’m sure that more than a few of you will understand what I mean? You see, up until this point in my life, I’ve always been a “but wait there’s more person.” You know her, the woman that doesn’t take the time to appreciate or bask in her achievements because she’s already on to the next objective, next thing, next goal. Driven to prove her capabilities to herself and others. Probably sounds pretty familiar am I right?

Don’t get me wrong; I’m all for the ambitious woman because I am her unapologetically! But as the clock ticked down on 2016, and I started to draw up this long list of things I wanted to accomplish in 2017 one phrase kept popping into my head. “Keyva, Enjoy your Journey.” Words from my best friend a couple of years back. While those words initially went in one ear and out the other, I now know exactly what she meant! I’ve finally realized that if I don’t enjoy the journey, no matter what I accomplish, I’ll never feel completely fulfilled.

So while 2016 was about my “year of growth,” I’m rooting my 2017 mindset in enjoyment. Yes, there will be goals and hopefully many achievements resulting from hard work, but above all, I’m focused on enjoying my journey. The good, bad, highs lows and everything in between!

Does this sound like you in anyway?  Tell me, what’s your 2017 mindset? What are you more focused on this year than you’ve ever been before? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I know that feeling. I love the part about enjoying the journey. Sometimes we get so caught up in perfection that we forget to have fun. I have to step back sometimes and remember to enjoy the process!! Great post.
